XPize ist ein Programm, welches u.a. viele alte Windowsicons durch schöne moderne ersetzt.

- Improved cleaning after uninstall

Important Notes:
- nLite compatibility is broken . nuhi and me will fix it. (Fixed. Next nLite version will be compatible with XPize 4.2 and above)
- "/dest" and "/mode=normal" switches no longer available
- When creating the ISO, XPize may appear as not responding.

Development of XPize 4.4 finished

The development of XPize 4.4 has started. My main concern is to polish the XPize 4.x series, so that I have a good base to work on version 5. For now some new things have been added:

- New PDF file type icon
- Improved 7-Zip icons (with the inclusion of the .iso file type)

I have to add compat to more MMC 3 builds (I hope MS don't release a new MMc 3 build every month ) , plus some other things such as Winamp multimedia files (not easy because there will be probably incompatibilities with WMP. We will see)

In addition to this, I tried to expand the possibilities of the i386 (make XPized ISO) option, but it definitely breaks nLite's compatibility among other internal functions. So I will probably work on this in XPize 5.

In the meantime, new features for XPize 5 came to my mind. I'm not going to tell them now, so people won't think I promised something that never became a reality. I will work on them and will post here info when necessary.

2008-07-14: XPize Project Discontinued (Temporarily)

I'm not very good at speeches, so I will try to keep this simple.

Since I got my job last year, I've become a busy person with little or no time for continue developing my 2 main heavy projects: Vize and XPize.

Also, I must admit that with time, I have been losing interest and strenght in both projects and they're now a tough task for me. That means that the fun is gone for me developing Vize and XPize and they have become a "job". That said, I think that when you no longer enjoy doing that akind of stuff, you should stop. So that's what I am doing right now.

I will make available all the source code of both projects, so other people can create similar packs (there are already users doing so).

I would like to give BIG THANK YOUS to all of you MSFN guys that helped me a lot in making the XPize and Vize projects a reality, specialy Martin_L and xper.

UPDATE: The XPize project has been ressurected by a group of people.

The rumours of xpize's demise have been greatly exaggerated! Almost a year since the release of the last update to XPize (4.7b2) a new release is on the horizon.

...and this release will be bigger and better than ever before!

xpize 5 (now all lowercase because it's fashionable) will see the codebase rewritten in C# to remove the dependence on ResHacker and enable further improvements.

Well, it's more than a rewrite. It's a total re-organization. More details will be forthcoming in the next few days. But we're aiming for a release date around Mid-September 2008.

XPize 4.7b2 and earlier editions will still be available, so don't worry.

* Installer Issues
- The "Download Tools" feature doesn't work because I haven't configured the server yet, you'll notice the error is 404.
- Not all strings have been localised. If a localised string is missing the English equivalent will be used as a fallback. I'll need to get the translation volunteers to finish off the tables when it hits final. Let me know of any mistranslations.
- There is no way to opt-out of checking for updates, which means your IP address will be logged by my server. This is used only for geostatistical purposes and never used to identify you personally.
- Progress is not shown for the extraction of the package beyond "LZMA".
- The installer is not customised with xpize banner and watermark images.
- The "Show Log" button doesn't keep the log window up-to-date.
* Installation Issues
- For some reason screensavers aren't being applied. I'm setting the registry key right, but the Display control panel just isn't picking it up. I'm actively investigating.
- Custom file type icons aren't being set. This is because the code to work with file types hasn't been finished.
- The UxTheme patcher (based off DeepXW's Universal-patching heuristics-based approach) has not been tested. All but two of the included visual styles are compatible with the original unpatched UxTheme.dll. Let me know if it doesn't work or causes any kind of system error.
* I386 Installation Issues
- The installer will refuse to handle the package if its condition="" doesn't match your system (i.e. if you're running XPx64 and want to patch an XPx86 ISO on your computer). Until the next release is out you can bypass this by adding the /ignorePackageCondition command-line switch (note that it is case-sensitive)
- Custom Windows setup artwork is not applied.
* Uninstallation Issues
- Wallpaper files aren't removed, but the wallpaper setting is reset.
- Cursors aren't removed nor reset to their original setting.
